Surah Az Zukhruf

Surah Az-Zukhruf, which means “The Ornaments of Gold,” is the 43rd chapter of the Holy Quran. It falls in Juz (Parah) no. 25 and it is a Makki Surah that was revealed at Mecca in its early stage of Islam. This Surah comprises 89 verses that deliver messages on what truly matters in life and why focusing on Allah (God) is more important than worldly possessions.

“The Ornaments of Gold” is an apt title for this Surah because it lays great stress on the fleeting nature of material things as well as their fascination for people. For example, we are reminded not to be deceived by appearances but rather seek lasting value through good deeds and faith.

Surah Az-Zukhruf incorporates several themes aimed at correcting our priorities towards pleasing Allah alone. Some key areas covered are:

Wealth Is Deceptive: The Surah cautions against deception by wealth or mere earthly riches without a guarantee for joy or success after death.

The Real Worth: Material possession does not determine our worth; instead, it is our good acts and faith according to this particular chapter.

Infidels with Their Priorities: The main target here are those who spurn religion/faith with concentration exclusively on mundane pleasure seeking tendencies; these individuals are informed about the consequence(s).

Accounts of Prophets: In this regard, Jesus (peace be upon him) has been mentioned in Surah Az-Zukhruf among other prophets who turned away from wealth to focus on propagating God’s message.

Importance of Faith: This chapter highlights how important having faith and doing well in both this world and hereafter can lead to success.
